We’re looking for a full-time person, or couple, to work on a 350 cow dairy farm milked seasonally through a 24 aside herring bone shed in the Geraldine/Temuka area (10mins from both). This is a flat fully irrigated property utilizing gun and k-line irrigation, and is on once a day milking.
Experience is required, and proven experience in animal health, pasture management, fence and water maintenance are a definite advantage. You will also need to be quiet with stock and be tidy in nature. Honesty, reliability and good work ethic are essential.
Part-time and Seasonal opportunities for a spouse are also available including calf rearing, relief milking, and farm maintenance.
A smaller unit like this allows the employee to get an overall picture of the dairy farming system through completing many and varied tasks instead of only a few set tasks during a season as may occur on a larger unit. If you're looking for a career in this industry, this will be an advantage to advancement.
This is one of three dairy farms we operate. There is therefore room for a motivated worker to move in to management and further.
Position is for the 09/10 season starting approximately June 1st.
